  • Team: C.s.i.a: Eng. Lorenzo Domenichini, Arch. Tommaso Valle, Arch. Gianluigi Valle, Arch. Maria Abbia GPA: Eng. Lorenzo Castellani, Eng. Sergio Olivero, Arch. Franco Luccichenti

The competition requires the development of a new road to connect the cities of Fibbiana to Capraia and Limite which are on opposite sides of the river Arno. The urban areas mentioned above expanded in the last years; therefore a new road system is needed. This new system requires a new bridge in the middle distance between the cities of Empoli and Montelupo Fiorentino. The aim of the project is to reduce the traffic inside the historical centre of the cities facing the Arno River. The typology of the bridge chosen by GPA is a suspended cable stayed bridge; the shape it looks like an arch, connected to the main structure through cables. The bridge is joined to the streets via two viaducts that permit the access to the bridge.
