GPA has performed structural reinforcement and adaptation to the according current specific legislation for category 1 bridges. Acquaborra bridge over the River Arno was built in the 50s with an ordinary reinforced concrete structure. The project was preceded by a series of investigations aimed at acquiring a solid knowledge base of the bridge's structural situation. Particularly, tests rebound, sampling, static load test, dynamic test. The intervention is characterized by the following aspects: • reinforcement of pillars' foundations and wing walls by micropiles; • reinforcement of the wing walls by rods; • increasing the load capacity of the beams by external prestressing; • shear strengthening of reinforced concrete structural elements by gluing structural fibrous materials (FRP); • structural and aesthetic restoration of concrete by special mortar.
