GPA’s project concerns the design of the motorway SR69 which has been transposed to the right side of the river. The road crosses San Giovanni Valdarno District. The stretch of road designed is 3 miles long, over 65% are newly developed, reaching up to Arezzo District. Along the motorway’s course, roundabouts, cross-roads, and bridges have been designed in order to connect to the existing road network; and also to avoid interference with the A1 Highway, railway, crossing rivers, and existing streets. GPA took care of the landscape design and fabrication drawings on behalf of the contractor. The final client is Arezzo Council. GPA’s role has encompassed the following: design of the stretch of the motorway, hydraulic works design, structural design, facilities design in particular of the street-light system, landscape design. Summary of works as following: • bulkhead strengthening along the stretch of road where land rises above street level: approximately 270 m long; • reinforced concrete containment walls to avoid erosion for 120 m; • two bridges, respectively 35 and 15 metres long, to cross over the river; • erosion containment works for a total of 380 m.
