In accordance with the specific category bridge regulations, an existing bridge over the Ticino River has been structurally reinforced and adjusted for load. It was originally built in the 1960s with a reinforced concrete structure. The project was preceded by a series of investigative surveys to acquire data concerning the structural condition of the bridge; in particular: tests with sclerometer, tests on materials, sampling, ultrasonic micro-seismic tests, static load test and dynamic testing were carried out. The project work involves: • reinforcement of the beams adding steel bars and concrete; • increasing the load-bearing capacity of the bridge under seismic actions adding inox steel bars; • increasing the load-bearing capacity of the bridge under seismic actions introducing Bumpers in the joints;• fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) strengthening of the reinforced concrete structural elements.
