The buildings involved in the project host one of the historical and most luxury hotel in the heart of Florence city center. They are located in the district where, due to the demolition plan by the end of the 19th century, the tiny and jagged old town plot was substituted by new building blocks. Fully preserving the distinguishing features of the buildings, thanks to the connection to the neighbor block that was the headquarter of a bank, the hotel gets twenty-six rooms more, a wellness and spa area and two shops at the ground floor. The project mainly deals with vertical connections, a new staircase and new lifts, in order to fulfill codes requirement and guests needs. The distinguishing historical features of the buildings in term of layout and materials are intended to be a value to be preserved. Therefore structures design is based on reversibility and becomes the opportunity to rearrange in a rational manner the whole structural system.
