In the context of the regeneration plan for the Careggi Hospital pole, the maternity unit building arises after the demolition of a pre-existing and outdated wing. The new multi-story building shows a transparent high-tech architecture and houses hospital rooms, doctors’ rooms, an operating suite and all neonatal ward services, in addition to a winter garden based on the principles of humanization for sanitary spaces. The building, made of two different parts, rests on a ribbed mat foundation and is supported by a structural grid made of precast tridimensional frames, cast-in-place reinforced concrete walls and upwind elements. The structural design was aimed to harmonization, besides the streamline of precast and cast-in-place elements fits in with the functional layout and the architectural requirements.
